Kurtis is an entrepreneur and technology/new media investment banker. He is currently a managing director in the San Francisco office of FBR Capital Markets, a publicly-traded investment bank (Nasdaq:FBCM). In 2008, FBR purchased East Peak Advisors, where Kurtis was a partner. Prior to East Peak, Kurtis was a senior banker at Epoch Partners, a venture-backed investment bank, which Goldman Sachs purchased in 2001. Kurtis started his investment banking career at a US predecessor to RBC Capital Markets over a decade ago, and prior to that was a senior associate in the securities/M&A law practice at Dewey LeBoeuf in New York. Kurtis graduated from Harvard College and Columbia University School of Law and attended NYU’s Stern School of Business. Kurtis was an appointee in the US SBA under President G.H.W. Bush focused on the SBIC venture investment program. He also worked as a foreign policy intern in Senator Dave Durenberger’s (R-MN) office and has a long standing interest in law and public policy related to economic development, energy and the environment, communications and media, securities markets, venture investing and entrepreneurship.
